Robert Kirkman & Lorenzo De Felici launch a new shared comic universe in Void Rivals #1
Today at the ComicsPRO Comic Industry Annual Meeting, Skybound made the surprise announcement of Void Rivals, a new comic book series from the blockbuster Oblivion Song team of Robert Kirkman (Invincible,The Walking Dead) and Lorenzo De Felici (Kroma), along with colorist Matheus Lopes (Step By Bloody Step).
It was also announced that Void Rivals will introduce the world to an all-new shared universe with a surprise that won’t be revealed till the series debut coming June 2023.
“With every project I do, I’m always trying to challenge myself. One thing I’ve always loved doing is starting small with a story and expanding the depth, scope and stakes as we progress,” said Robert Kirkman. “With Void Rivals we’ll be going bigger than I ever have and at a much faster pace. This project is going to be monumental. I can’t wait for people to see what Lorenzo and I have cooking.”
“Robert and a sci-fi shipwreck? Quick, feed me popcorn cause my hands are busy drawing!” added Lorenzo De Felici.
Void Rivals #1will feature a main cover by De Felici, along with variant covers by some of the top artists in the industry today that will reveal more about these new characters and their worlds!

Void Rivals #1(DIAMOND CODE JAN238443) will be available at comic book shops and digital platforms including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play on Wednesday, June 14. 
Void Rivals #1 will feature a main cover by De Felici, along with an impressive lineup of variant covers by some of the top artists in the industry today that will reveal more about these new characters and their worlds, including
Ethan Young (The Dragon Path) will draw the cover for the rotating cover B variant slot.
The series will feature three incentive variants:
- A 1:10 copy incentive for cover C, with issue 1 by Matteo Scalera (Batman)
- A 1:25 copy incentive for cover D, with issue #1 art by Karen S. Darboe (Bloodline: Daughter of Blade)

Skybound, in collaboration with leading toy and game company Hasbro, announced today that hit series Void Rivals will receive subsequent printings featuring covers by artists Flaviano and Jason Howard that spotlight favorite characters and their first appearances in the series.
The buzzed-about new series from the iconic Oblivion Song team of Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead) and Lorenzo De Felici (Kroma), along with colorist Matheus Lopes (Step by Bloody Step) and letterer Rus Wooton (Fire Power), continues to sell out at the distributor level, with fan demand prompting subsequent printings.
Available in comic book shops on October 4, 2023, alongside Skybound and Hasbro’s historic launch of Daniel Warren Johnson’s Transformers #1, the new Void Rivals cover printings highlight each issue’s connection to TRANSFORMERS lore. Each cover depicts a fan favorite character from each issue—Jetfire, Skuxxoid, and the Quintesson Prosecutor, respectively. Flaviano will draw connecting covers for issues #1 and #2, while Jason Howard will draw a standalone second printing cover for issue #3.
The “Energon Universe” officially began with the surprise first appearance of iconic TRANSFORMERS character Jetfire in Void Rivals #1. The launch introduced the historic new collaboration between Hasbro and Skybound, with TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE comics finding a new home with the publisher. Each issue of Void Rivals promises to take readers further into this all-new world, with more familiar faces to appear.
